For a period of time in the late 1870's the entire Nebraska Sandhills, Great Sandhills and everything south of the White River in Dacotah was known as Doc Middleton Country. This Lawless frontier in between the North Platte and the White Rivers was perfect for Doc and his Ponyboys to escape justice and trade in illegally acquired animal flesh.
